Competency Based Interviewing Skills Course in Doha, Qatar

Plan and conduct competency-based interviews, write behavioral questions, probe for evidence using the STAR method and score candidates consistently against a competency framework.

Course overview

This Competency Based Interviewing Skills course focuses on the interviewer. It teaches participants how to turn a competency framework into interview questions, how to listen for and probe behavioral evidence, and how to rate answers consistently. Competency-based interviews rest on the principle that past behavior is a useful guide to future performance, and a structured approach makes hiring and promotion decisions more reliable and easier to justify than an unstructured conversation.

Most of the course is practice. Participants write their own behavioral questions, run mock interviews in pairs and small groups, use the STAR method to probe incomplete answers, take notes and score candidates against behavioral indicators. Feedback from the trainer and peers helps them refine their questioning and listening. As an in-house program, the course can use the organization's own competency framework, interview guides and scoring forms, and include panel calibration exercises.

Why Competency Based Interviewing Skills Matters in Qatar

Organizations in Qatar regularly interview candidates from many different countries and educational systems, where a polished conversational style can easily be mistaken for capability. Competency-based interviewing gives government entities, energy companies, banks and healthcare providers a fairer, evidence-based way to compare applicants and internal candidates. It is also useful for promotion and development decisions linked to workforce nationalisation goals, where organizations need transparent criteria for moving national employees into larger roles.
