Logistics & Supply Chain Management
Understand how goods, information and money flow through a supply chain, and learn to plan demand, manage inventory and transport, measure performance and reduce supply chain risk.
Learn to group spend into categories, analyze each category's market and stakeholders, and build and implement category strategies that deliver savings, reduced risk and better supplier value.
Category management is a structured approach to procurement in which related goods and services are grouped together and managed as distinct business segments, each with its own strategy. This course explains the full category management process: defining categories, gathering and analyzing spend and market data, engaging stakeholders, developing a category strategy, implementing sourcing plans and reviewing results. It shows how category management moves procurement from transaction processing to a strategic role that influences demand, specifications and supplier relationships.
Participants apply the process to a category from their own organization or a provided case. Exercises include building a category profile, analyzing supplier market forces, mapping stakeholder interests and drafting a category strategy with options and a business case. Group discussion covers how to win internal support and measure benefits credibly. The course is delivered as a classroom or live online program in Doha, and can run as an in-house program for procurement teams that want to develop strategies for their own categories during the training.
By the end of this course, participants will be able to:
