Management of Contracts & Contract Claims
Learn to prepare, assess and respond to contract claims, including notices, extension of time, delay and disruption, and quantum, and to resolve claims through negotiation or formal procedures.
Build the skills to govern complex contracts after award: control changes, manage performance and payment, handle variations and early disputes, and close out contracts with lessons captured.
Most contract value is won or lost after signature. This advanced course focuses on the post-award phase, where experienced contract managers must interpret obligations, administer changes, monitor performance, certify payments and keep relationships productive under commercial pressure. It looks at contract governance structures, the roles of the contract owner and contract administrator, and the records and communication disciplines that protect an organization's position when circumstances change. Participants learn to spot early warning signs of failure and to intervene before problems become disputes.
The course is highly practical. Participants analyze extracts from real-style contracts, prepare change orders and notices, build a contract management plan and work through escalation scenarios in small groups. Discussion draws on experience from service, supply and construction contracts so that participants can apply the methods across different contract types. Delivered as a classroom or live online program in Doha, it can also run as an in-house program for organizations, using their own contract templates, governance arrangements and current contract issues as case material.
By the end of this course, participants will be able to:
Design a contract management plan defining governance, roles, reporting and key obligations
Interpret complex contract provisions and translate them into practical administration tasks
Administer variations and change orders while controlling scope, cost and time
Monitor contractor performance against KPIs and apply remedies proportionately
Manage payment, retention, securities and financial controls under the contract
Resolve emerging disagreements through structured escalation before they become formal disputes
Close out contracts effectively and capture lessons for future agreements
The course is designed for practitioners who already administer contracts and now carry responsibility for larger or more complex agreements.

Many organizations in Qatar manage long-term service, maintenance and construction contracts that run for years and involve several contractors and subcontractors. In energy, utilities, healthcare and government services, the quality of post-award administration strongly influences cost, reliability and public value. As Qatar continues to develop national capability under Qatar National Vision 2030, employers need contract managers who can govern agreements confidently rather than relying on external advisers for routine decisions. This course supports that development.
