Hydrogen Sulphide (H2S) Awareness
Recognize where H2S can occur, understand its properties and health effects, use personal gas monitors correctly and respond safely to an H2S alarm, including escape and muster actions.
Plan and control hot work such as welding, cutting and grinding by applying hot work permits, gas testing before work, removal of combustibles, fire watch duties and safe post-work checks.
Hot Work Safety training in Doha, Qatar covers the controls needed whenever welding, cutting, brazing, grinding or other spark-producing work takes place outside a designated workshop. Learners study how hot work causes fires and explosions in tanks, pipework, roofs and buildings under construction, and why many of these incidents involve flammable vapors that nobody tested for or combustible materials left too close to the work.
The course is organized around the hot work permit: assessing the area, clearing or protecting combustibles, gas testing before hot work, isolating and purging equipment, providing extinguishers and assigning a fire watch during and after the job. Practical exercises include completing a hot work checklist and reviewing incident cases. The course can be run as an in-house program for an organization using its permit forms and site rules.
By the end of this course, participants will be able to:
Define hot work and identify activities that require a hot work permit
Assess hot work areas for combustibles, flammable atmospheres and hidden hazards
Explain gas testing before hot work and the need for continuous monitoring
Describe the duties of a fire watch during and after hot work
Select fire extinguishers and fire blankets for hot work locations
Complete hot work permit checks and safe close-out inspections
This course is for people who perform, authorize or supervise hot work.

Welding, cutting and grinding are everyday activities on Qatar's construction projects, in oil and gas plants and during facility maintenance, often near insulation, packaging or hydrocarbons and in high summer temperatures. Fires caused by hot work can halt projects and endanger many workers. Disciplined hot work control supports fire prevention priorities of Qatar's Civil Defence and the safe, skilled workforce envisaged by Qatar National Vision 2030.
