Understand where a leader's power comes from and use it ethically: build influence, read organizational politics, persuade stakeholders and develop a confident executive presence.
The Power of Leaders examines how leaders actually get things done through others: by understanding, building and using power and influence. The course explores the classic bases of power, from positional authority to expertise and relationships, and shows why personal sources of influence tend to produce more lasting commitment than formal authority alone. Participants also look at organizational politics, stakeholder dynamics and the ethical responsibilities that come with power.
Learning is applied and personal. Participants map the stakeholders around a real initiative, diagnose their own influence profile, practice persuasion and negotiation conversations, and receive peer feedback on presence and communication. Case studies illustrate both effective and harmful uses of power. The course can be delivered as an in-house program, focusing on the influence challenges leaders face within a particular organization's structure and culture.
By the end of this course, participants will be able to:
Identify positional and personal sources of power and assess your own power base
Select influence tactics that suit the person, situation and desired outcome
Map stakeholders and plan engagement to build support for initiatives
Navigate organizational politics constructively while maintaining integrity

In Qatar's organizations, major decisions often involve many stakeholders, including government bodies, partners, contractors and internal committees. Leaders who understand how influence works, and who build relationships and credibility rather than relying on hierarchy alone, are better able to move initiatives forward in this environment. Ethical, relationship-based influence fits well with the region's emphasis on trust and respect, and supports the collaborative, well-governed institutions that Qatar's national development depends upon.
