The Leadership Challenge
Explore the widely used Five Practices model of exemplary leadership and turn it into everyday behaviors: clarifying your values, inspiring a shared vision and enabling others to act.
Refine advanced management practice: design performance systems, allocate resources, make sound decisions with data and manage other managers across functions and departments.
Mastering Management Skills is an advanced program for experienced managers who want to move from managing tasks to managing systems. It focuses on the mechanisms that make departments run well: performance frameworks, resource allocation, decision-making methods, budgeting conversations and the coordination of work across functions. Participants also examine the particular challenge of managing other managers, where influence is exercised through structures, standards and coaching rather than direct supervision.
The course is highly interactive. Participants work through business cases, decision-making simulations and diagnostic tools, and apply frameworks such as balanced performance indicators, RACI charts and structured problem-solving to issues from their own departments. Peer discussion is a central feature, as experienced managers learn a great deal from each other. Organizations can also run the course as an in-house program focused on their own management system and departmental priorities.
By the end of this course, participants will be able to:
Design departmental performance frameworks that link objectives, indicators and reviews
Allocate people, budget and time against competing priorities using clear criteria
Apply structured decision-making and problem-solving tools to complex management issues
Manage and develop other managers through standards, delegation and coaching
Improve coordination and decision rights across functions using tools such as RACI
Lead effective management meetings and review cycles that drive accountability
This advanced course is designed for managers with several years of experience who now manage departments, functions or other managers.

As Qatar's public and private sectors continue to modernise, organizations are placing greater emphasis on performance management, accountability and efficient use of resources. Ministries, state-owned enterprises, energy, infrastructure and service organizations all need experienced managers who can run departments through clear systems rather than personal effort alone. Strengthening this layer of management supports the effective, well-governed institutions envisaged in Qatar National Vision 2030 and helps organizations deliver national development priorities.
Join a scheduled class at our training center in Doha or attend live online. For organizations, the course can run as an in-house program at your premises or online, tailored to your sector, case studies and timetable.
It is an advanced management program that helps experienced managers build stronger departmental systems, covering performance frameworks, resource allocation, decision-making, cross-functional coordination and the management of other managers through practical cases and simulations.
It is intended for department heads, functional and operations managers, and others who manage team leaders or supervisors. Participants should already have practical management experience, as the course builds on existing skills rather than introducing the basics.
It is not the ideal starting point for a first-time manager. New managers usually benefit more from a foundation course on leadership and management skills, then progress to this advanced program once they are responsible for a larger team or other managers.
