Learn to prepare project estimates and budgets, set a cost baseline, measure performance with earned value indicators such as CPI and SPI, and forecast final costs under change control.
The Project Cost Control Fundamentals course in Doha, Qatar introduces the methods used to plan, monitor and control the cost of a project. Learners see how estimates are developed at different stages, how they are rolled up into a time-phased budget and how a cost baseline is approved and protected. The course then explains earned value management in plain terms, using planned value, earned value and actual cost to calculate cost and schedule variances and the CPI and SPI performance indices.
Learning is built around worked examples and short spreadsheet exercises, so participants calculate indicators themselves and interpret what the numbers say about a project. They practice preparing simple estimates at completion, assessing the cost impact of changes and recording them through a change control process. This is an introductory course; learners who need deeper coverage can progress to the advanced Budget Estimation & Cost Control for Complex Projects course. It can also be delivered as an in-house program for organizations.
By the end of this course, participants will be able to:
Describe estimate types and the accuracy expected at each project stage
Prepare a time-phased budget and establish a cost baseline
Calculate PV, EV and AC and the resulting cost and schedule variances
Interpret CPI and SPI to judge project performance
Forecast estimate at completion and estimate to complete
Apply change control to assess and record cost impacts
